Dr.Suzanne J. Smith, VMD
Dr. Suzanne Smith is a graduate of University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. She Received her Bachelor of Arts degree at Wellesley College in Massachusetts. Dr. Smith has been involved in the veterinary community as a former President of the NJ Veterinary Medical Association. She founded the New Jersey Animal Hall of Fame. She has served as Chair of the NJ University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine Alumni Society and she served several years on their Admission Committee. Additionally, Dr. Smith has served in the past on committees of the American Association of Equine Practitioners. Dr. Smith was a member of NJ Governor’s Lyme Disease Advisory Committee. She served several terms of the Executive Board of Mane Stream, a therapeutic riding center, in Oldwick, NJ. Dr. Smith has spent the last ten years involved in NAVS (Native American Veterinary Services) as a veterinary volunteer on several of the poorer reservations in the Southwest performing surgical procedures and providing veterinary care for horses and small animals. As part of her efforts in NAVS she dedicated time mentoring and teaching veterinary and pre-veterinary students in New Mexico and Arizona.
Karen SantangeloVeterinary Assistant
Karen Santangelo is married and has three grown children. Karen has a Business Degree in Management and is a Certified Veterinary Technician. She shares her home with 6 dogs. She has been a breeder for 25 years, first breeding German Shepherds and for the last 15 years, English Labrador Retrievers. Karen is very knowledgeable in canine behavior. She has competed in Sheep Herding, Tracking, Obedience, Schutzhund, the breed show ring, guided hunts, and tower shoots. In her spare time she loves to be out with her dogs and hunts her Labradors. She and her husband enjoy baseball, bike riding, and traveling.
Dena CastellaniVeterinary Assistant
Dena Castellani began working here in 2011, and has a multitude of animals at her home, including miniature horses, Nigerian Dwarf goats, dogs, a cat, a rabbit, and a hamster. Dena attended Raritan Valley Community College where she obtained her Associates in Biology before continuing her education at the University of Maryland - College Park, where she graduated with her Bachelors in Animal Science in May 2018. Dena was accepted and will be attending veterinary school beginning in fall 2018 at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine where she will be tracking as a Mixed Animal Practitioner (Projected Graduation of August 2022). Her dog Angel will be accompanying her during her years at veterinary school. During her breaks, you can find her here working mostly evening shifts and Saturday mornings. Her hope is to come back to New Jersey upon graduation and work in a practice much like Spring Mills Veterinary Hospital.
Daniel ComayaguaVeterinary Assistant
Daniel Comayagua joined Spring Mills Veterinary Hospital in 2016. At home, he lives with a beautiful German Shepherd Dog and two birds. When he is not working, he enjoys spoiling his dog, Halo, and spending time with friends and family. Daniel is an animal lover who loves all kinds of animals, and wants to make a career out of being able to help animals. You can usually find him working during the evening or Saturday morning.
